This asset was created while working for the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The entire reason of modelling this asset was for the use in VR in a training simulation to help train volunteers in UXO identification and then later on the start of explosive disarmament training.
I had to build up a library of photos of each asset – This one was easy to find, the MVN72 has seen large amounts of use in Ukraine as it's one of the more common fuse types to see on mines such as the TM62M. Prior to arming the fuse, a battery is installed in the battery well. The clockwork mechanism is wound. The arming button is depressed and a clockwork mechanism is freed allowing an arming disk to rotate. As the arming disk rotates, the fuse becomes electrically armed and the explosive train is put into alignment. When a target vehicle approaches the landmine, the fuse senses the magnetic signatures from the target, which, in turn, initiates the explosive train.
The modelling process for this asset was a bit harder as it was essentially a cylinder but with other parts cut out of it with the mechanism needed. There's a few issues with the low poly but for the use this asset was okay.
Texturing was done entirely in Substance Painter.
The end result was for Unreal Engine 4 due to VR not quite yet being stable (At the time!) in UE5, later projects might be in UE5 as there have been discussions within the VR Unit about this – For the rendering I've used Marmoset as I'm enjoying the program so far and have been getting good results.
I bundled the "muddy" version with the clean version as previously I've done a post for each UXO / Damaged model, for the fuse there is no damaged model. These things either cause the mine to detonate in which case the fuse ceases to exist or they don't go off and you'll see them a bit muddy.
