This asset was created while working for the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The entire reason of modelling this asset was for the use in VR in a training simulation to help train volunteers in UXO identification and then later on the start of explosive disarmament training.
I had to build up a library of photos of each asset – This one was easy to find, this anti tank mine, TM62M, has seen considerably use all across Ukraine. With various types of fuses this is one of the more effective anti tank mines currently in use. The landmine accepts a variety of other fuses that give it a full-width attack capability against vehicles. Unlike previous models made by the soviets, the landmine body is filled to the surface with explosives and does not have a collapsible pressure plate. This mine weight roughly 8.5kg
The modelling process for this asset was quite straightforward as it was essentially a cylinder, the harder part was the pattern underneath and the threaded section where the fuse screws into. In hind sight I should have done a little more work on the low poly as there's a few baking issues that I have noticed on reflection.
Texturing was done entirely in Substance Painter. I tried to make the mine dented and muddy like a lot of the ones currently being dug up by EOD specialists and volunteers.
The end result was for Unreal Engine 4 due to VR not quite yet being stable (At the time!) in UE5, later projects might be in UE5 as there have been discussions within the VR Unit about this – For the rendering I've used Marmoset as I'm enjoying the program so far and have been getting good results.
