ICRC Ukraine Project | 9M27K Series Cargo Rocket UXO 2

This asset was created while working for the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The entire reason of modelling this asset was for the use in VR in a training simulation to help train volunteers in UXO identification and then later on the start of explosive disarmament training.
I had to build up a library of photos of each asset – This specific piece of the rocket was unfortunately incredibly easy to find references of. It has seen extensive use across Ukraine by Russian and Russian backed forces. It is worth mentioning there is another variant of this rocket which is just a high explosive payload, but that is a slightly different one. The 9M27K series of rockets is launched from MLRS Platform (Multiple Launch Rocket System), Specifically the BM-27 Uragan. This type of Rocket is a 220mm "Cargo" rocket. This carries a variety of submunitions, many of which are banned under the "Convention on Cluster Munitions". There are a variety of 9M27K submunitions one of which is in a previous upload of mine. This can carry High Explosive bomblets to different mines such as the PFM-1 (Also known as a "Parrot bomb" or "Butterfly mines"), a scatterable Anti-infantry high-explosive mine which has also seen extensive use in places like Syria. The modelling process for this rocket was straight forward as the exterior is essentially just a tube with some fins on the end. The cargo carrier itself was a bit harder to do but nothing complex. Due to how simple the entire asset was the unwrap came out nicely and was packed by hand relatively efficiently.
Texturing was done entirely in Substance Painter and was quite painless. I had plenty of references of how this rocket looks due to the extensive use of them in Ukraine. I wanted to convey the poor level of care and maintenance that appears to be prevalent across the Russian and Russian backed forces. The majority of their equipment is badly kept with rust spots. It was important to represent this in the assets.
The end result was for Unreal Engine 4 due to VR not quite yet being stable (At the time!) in UE5, later projects might be in UE5 as there have been discussions within the VR Unit about this – For the rendering I've used Marmoset as I'm enjoying the program so far and have been getting good results.
